Description of the Plan Types
Fixed Rate Plans
A fixed rate is a rate whose price (in ¢/kWh) does not change over the whole period of the contract. However, consumers should be aware that many energy retailers will automatically transfer their customers to a variable rate once their fixed rate contract has finished. Find out more about what a fixed rate is.
Customers report that they appreciate savings on fixed rate electricity plans from Beyond Power. Fixed rate plans can often be a good deal if you are able to lock in a good rate at the right time of year.
Electricity customers should opt for fixed rate contracts of longer periods of time. Electricity prices per kilowatt-hour fluctuate throughout the year, and you may actually lose money by not being able to take advantage of prices when they are low. However, because electricity prices tend to increase over time, locking in fixed rates for longer periods may prove advantageous and deliver savings.
Variable Rate Plans
Beyond Power does not offer Variable Rates as an individual offer, but as for most providers, their fixed rates switch to a variable rate at the end of the contract term.
A variable rate is a rate (in ¢/kWh) that changes every month. How the rate changes can be at the discretion of the supplier, or it might be based on a specific mathematical formula and/or based on an energy index. In Beyond Power's case, the variable rate you are by default signed up to at the end of your fixed contract will have a price per kWh at the discretion of Beyond Power. We recommend this rate if you are planning on moving out in less than 6 months. Find out more about variable rates.
Green Energy Plans
Beyond Power offers 100% green energy plans only. The Texas average renewable content is 10.7%. To find out exactly what a renewable energy plan is, please visit our page: Impact of green rates on the environment.
When it comes to whether your rate contains a base charge or not, there are 3 possibilities.
- No base charge at all (neither utility nor supplier): no matter how much you use per month, you rate (your electricity price in ¢/kWh) will remain the same.
- No base charge: this usually means that there is no supplier base charge. There will still be a utility base charge. Your rate (in ¢/kWh) will change depending on how much you consume.
- Base charge: there will be a supplier base charge and a utility base charge. Your rate (in ¢/kWh) will change depending on how much you consume.
The existence of base charges make it important for you to know your monthly energy consumption before choosing a rate. If you do not know your monthly energy consumption, please use our Estimation Tool.
We have rated this supplier .
Beyond Power has a reduced amount of offers. There is no 6 month fixed rate available, which is a pity, but there is 3 month and 12 month, in addition to the longer 24 and 36 month offers. Beyond Power displays clearly the base charges, and the charges per kWh.
Beyond Power has an A rating with the Better Business Bureau, based on the small number of complaints that have been made against it.
