Our Opinion

Perigee Energy has positive customer service ratings from the Better Business Bureau, and customers report being able to reap savings on fixed rate plans.

However, variable rates may end up being more expensive than consumers' local utilities. Additionally, some feel overwhelmed by the company's telemarketing practices.

Savings on Fixed Rates

Customers appreciate that they have been able to save on fixed rate plans with Perigee Energy in comparison to rates offered by their local utility.

Electricity prices per kilowatt-hour increase over time, which make longer fixed rate contracts a good deal. However, the price of electricity actually fluctuates so much over the course of a year that customers may end up losing money over shorter periods because they can't take advantage of lower prices when the market drops.

We do not recommend variable rates with alternate suppliers, because prices are not regulated by your state government and can end up being more expensive than your local utility.

Positive Customer Service Reviews

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) gave Perigee Energy a B+ rating as of February 2015, for responding well and quickly to official complaints. The BBB reports that the company's score was lowered for being relatively new.

Expensive Variable Rates

According to the Connecticut Office of Consumer Counsel (OCC), Perigee was offering rates to some Connecticut customers that were almost double the prices offered by their local utilities. Customers are likely either signed up for variable rate plans with the understanding that rates will remain low, or they have been automatically switched to variable rates at the end of their fixed rate term.

Because Perigee Energy charges early cancellation fees on some variable rate plans, this can effectively make it difficult for consumers to cancel if they miss the deadline at the end of their fixed rate contract.

Too Many Telemarketing Calls

Some customers report that they have received too many sales calls from Perigee Energy, even when they are already signed up with the company. There are some who feel frustrated with the frequency of this practice.
