Savings on Fixed Rate Plans
Customers report that they appreciate saving on fixed rate natural gas and electricity plans with CenStar Energy. Fixed rate plans can often be a good deal if you are able to lock in a good rate at the right time of the year. Learn more about common contract conditions.
Natural Gas Plans
For natural gas, we recommend 12 month plans with CenStar. This is because the price of natural gas per therm or cubic foot varies so much between seasons, that you can save if you capture a good rate during the winter when prices are at their lowest.
Electricity customers should opt for fixed rate contracts of 18 or 24 months. Prices of electricity per kilowatt-hour fluctuate over the course of a year, and you may actually lose money by not being able to take advantage of prices when they are low. However, the price of electricity actually increases over time, so periods longer than a year may deliver savings.
Postive Customer Service Ratings
CenStar Energy has an excellent A rating from the Better Business Bureau, based on the small number of complaints the company receives in relation to its size. Additionally CenStar Energy earned high marks for responding well to official customer complaints.
The New York state Public Service Commission gave CenStar Energy a rating of average for the number of complaints filed against the company in 2012.
Losses on Variable Rate Plans
Some customers are not pleased with the fact that variable rates may end up being more expensive with CenStar Energy than with their local utility. We do not recommend variable rate plans, since they are not regulated by your state government and could end up being a bad deal.
Disappointment with Cancellation Fees
Though standard on most fixed rate plans, some customers report disappointment with the fact that there are early cancellation fees with CenStar Energy. These fees are actually quite expensive, at $25 per month remaining in a customer's contract. We advise that customers do not sign up for fixed rate plans unless they are sure that they will want to stay with CenStar for their entire contract period.
